Roll-off dumpster rental in Cloquet

Approx. 23 road miles from the yard, around 31 minutes.

Cloquet is approx. 23 road miles west of the yard, around 31 minutes — same-day or next-day when availability allows, once the City's rules for the job are checked; call early for the best chance of same-day. It is a city of 12,568 at the 2020 Census, in Carlton County, inside the Western Lake Superior Sanitary District.

City code has owners of buildings with four or fewer units arrange at least weekly disposal through a licensed collector, says the District's rules win where they conflict with the City's, and sends construction debris to an MPCA-designated site (Ch. 7). The City also has its own Solid Waste and Recycling Collector's License. Remodels, roofs and clean-outs go out in roll-offs.

Local knowledge

Getting our bearings in Cloquet

Knowing a city properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.

  • City collector licence — Cloquet's Application for Solid Waste and Recycling Collector's License covers residential and commercial collection (code § 6.13 in the index).
  • Behind the curb — the City says it owns “another 9 to 17 feet behind the curb” for snow storage and sidewalks.
  • Plowing — “most major plowing operations begin between 3:00 and 4:00 a.m.,” the Public Works FAQ says.
  • Winter parking — no overnight street parking from midnight to 6 a.m., November 1 to March 31, with snow-emergency towing at about 2 inches or more (§ 5.4.05).
  • City Engineer's Office — 218-879-6758.

What comes out of Cloquet properties

Roofing in 10s and 20s, garage clean-outs and flooring in 15s, remodels in 20s, multi-room remodels and estate clean-outs in 30s, commercial jobs and major demolition in 40s, and a 10 or 15 for concrete and dirt — heavy material usually only goes in the smaller boxes. Construction debris goes to an MPCA-designated site under City code (§ 7.9.05). Minnesota keeps these out of the trash and out of landfills: tires (Minn. Stat. 115A.904); major appliances such as fridges, washers, dryers, stoves, water heaters and air conditioners (115A.9561); TVs and monitors with picture tubes (115A.9565); lead-acid car batteries (115A.915); motor oil, oil filters, antifreeze and other vehicle fluids (115A.916); yard waste mixed with trash (115A.931); mercury items such as thermostats and fluorescent tubes (115A.932); and rechargeable batteries and devices with built-in rechargeables (115A.9157). Tell us if a load is yard waste, and before you load an appliance. No paint, solvents, oils, hazardous chemicals, gas cylinders, propane tanks, batteries, medical waste or asbestos.

Permits, placement and who may haul in Cloquet

Who may haul — read this first: The Western Lake Superior Sanitary District, now called Resource Renew, says no one may collect or transport mixed municipal solid waste, rubbish or recyclable materials for profit within the District without a District licence (WLSSD Solid Waste Ordinance § 6.1), and its hauler application lists roll-off containers and construction/demolition waste among the services. Cloquet adds its own city collector licence: the code index lists § 6.13, Licensing of Solid Waste and Recycling, and the City's Application for Solid Waste and Recycling Collector's License covers residential and commercial collection. The code text doesn't say whether that licence reaches a roll-off-only service, so we check the City's rules before booking a container in Cloquet. We're licensed and insured.

In the street: City code bars obstructing or occupying any right-of-way without the appropriate permit, and the Director of Public Works administers rights-of-way (§§ 9.1.03, 9.1.04). The Public Works FAQ says exceptions “require a Right-of-Way Occupation Permit, which may be granted by the City Engineer's Office” — 218-879-6758. A driveway is the simple spot; give us clear placement instructions and you don't need to be home.

Winter: no parking from midnight to 6 a.m., November 1 to March 31 (§ 5.4.05), and the City keeps 9 to 17 feet behind the curb for snow storage and sidewalks. Those rules cover vehicles and the boulevard, but the plows start early — driveway first.

State highways: MnDOT has no permit for setting a private container on trunk-highway right-of-way, and Minnesota law makes it a misdemeanor to obstruct a highway or place any object within its limits (Minn. Stat. 160.2715). Beside a state highway the container goes on private property, never in the right-of-way. We check the exact address.

Covered loads: Minnesota bars driving a load that can drop, sift, leak or blow out (Minn. Stat. 169.81, subd. 5). Keep debris level with the top rim — overfilled containers can't be legally transported.

Remodel or tear-down: Minnesota requires appliances, tires, mercury items, batteries, oils, electronics and household hazardous waste to be taken out before renovation or demolition starts (Minn. R. 7035.0805). Demolition debris means concrete, brick, asphalt, untreated wood, masonry, glass and similar building parts — never asbestos (Minn. R. 7035.0300, subp. 30). Asbestos work needs an MDH-licensed contractor, who notifies the Minnesota Department of Health at least 5 calendar days ahead (Minn. Stat. 326.74); a homeowner working in their own single-family home is exempt from the licence (326.72). For many demolitions — commercial buildings and larger residential buildings — the MPCA must be notified 10 working days ahead. Asbestos never goes in our containers; tell us if you find any.

Summarized from the published local code and official web pages as read in October 2026. Codes change — confirm with the department listed before you rely on it.

How it works

Booking a dumpster in Cloquet

Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.

  1. Step 1: Call and tell us the job

One short conversation. We ask the address, what you are clearing — a cleanout, a renovation, a roof, a yard, a job site — roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us.

  2. Step 2: We size it and quote it flat

You get a flat-rate quote whenever possible that covers delivery, pickup, disposal, the standard rental period and an included weight allowance. If a smaller box does the job we will say so. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size.

  3. Step 3: Delivered where you want it

The driver sets the container on the driveway, lot or job site where you asked, on a flat, solid surface rather than the lawn. Often same-day or next-day, when scheduling allows. You do not need to be home.

  4. Step 4: Load it at your pace

Keep it level with or below the top rim and keep the problem items out — paint and solvents, oil and fuel, chemicals, tires, batteries, propane tanks and gas cylinders, medical waste, asbestos, TVs and computers, and fridges, washers, stoves and other major appliances. Need more time or a swap mid-job? One call.

  5. Step 5: We haul it and dispose of it right

The load is secured for the road and goes to a facility permitted to take it, with metal, concrete and yard debris diverted from landfills whenever possible. You get your driveway back the way you left it.

Local answers

Dumpster rental in Cloquet — common questions

Can I get a roll-off in Cloquet?

Cloquet issues its own city collector licence on top of the WLSSD licence, and its code doesn't say whether that covers roll-offs. We check the City's rules before booking a container in Cloquet. Call (218) 522-8487.

Do I need a permit for a dumpster in a Cloquet street?

Yes. Occupying a right-of-way needs a permit; the City says exceptions need a Right-of-Way Occupation Permit from the City Engineer's Office. A driveway is simpler.

Where does construction debris go in Cloquet?

City code sends it to an MPCA-designated site (Sec. 7.9.05), not out with the household trash.

How far is Cloquet from your yard?

About 23 road miles, around 31 minutes (approx.), west of the yard in Superior.
