Duluth's local dumpster company

Roll-off dumpster rental across Duluth, Superior and the Northland

True North Waste Bins runs out of a yard at 405 John Ave, Superior, WI 54880 — inside the City of Superior, Douglas County, on a local street a few minutes from the Blatnik Bridge (I-535/US-53) and the Bong Bridge (US-2) into Duluth. The idea is simple: make waste removal easier, cleaner and more dependable, with honest pricing and no hidden fees. So we keep it plain. A flat-rate quote that covers the job. A delivery window we tell you up front. A local person on the line, not a call center.

Duluth had 86,697 people at the 2020 Census and St. Louis County 200,231; across the bridge, Superior had 26,751 and Douglas County 44,295. Homeowners call about cleanouts, remodels and storm-damaged roofs; landlords turn over rentals; contractors work from Canal Park and Lakeside out to Hermantown, Cloquet and Two Harbors. Knowing which of those a call is before the truck leaves the yard is most of the job — along with knowing that a Duluth street placement needs the City's obstruction permit and a surety bond, that Superior wants a Director of Public Works permit for anything in a street, that I-35 and US-53 are state trunk highways with no container permit, that Duluth and its neighbors sit in the Resource Renew district with its own hauler licence and banned list, and that Minnesota keeps major appliances, tires, car batteries and yard waste out of the trash.

Whatever you are clearing — a garage or a whole house, a job site, a yard full of storm limbs or a rental you want emptied by a crew — the container exists for it. Call (218) 522-8487 and describe it in a sentence.

Why Duluth chooses us

Why people call us back

  • You reach a local team, not a call center

The phone is answered by a local team member who knows Duluth, Superior and the towns around them — a hillside lot in Congdon, a street in Lakeside, a job site near Canal Park.

  • Flat-rate pricing, said out loud

Delivery, pickup, disposal, the rental period and an included weight allowance explained up front. No hidden fees and no surprise charges. If your load looks like it will go over, we say so before the truck leaves the yard.

  • Same-day when scheduling allows

Call before midday and we will do everything possible to deliver the same day, depending on scheduling. If it has to be tomorrow, we tell you before you book.

  • Driveway-friendly placement

Careful placement on a flat, solid surface, and the driver tells you before delivery if a tight drive, a steep approach, low wires or soft ground needs a different plan. Plywood or boards under the contact points add protection if you want it.

  • The right box, not the biggest

Weight fills a container long before volume does. If a 10 yard is the honest answer for your broken-up concrete, that is what we will quote you.

  • Ready for storm cleanup

Strong winds or a heavy storm can drop limbs and damage roofs in an afternoon. We tell you honestly when the container can be there.

Simple from start to finish

Five steps, one phone call

Most bookings take a few minutes.

  1. Step 1: Call and tell us the job

One short conversation. We ask the address, what you are clearing — a cleanout, a renovation, a roof, a yard, a job site — roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us.

  2. Step 2: We size it and quote it flat

You get a flat-rate quote whenever possible that covers delivery, pickup, disposal, the standard rental period and an included weight allowance. If a smaller box does the job we will say so. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size.

  3. Step 3: Delivered where you want it

The driver sets the container on the driveway, lot or job site where you asked, on a flat, solid surface rather than the lawn. Often same-day or next-day, when scheduling allows. You do not need to be home.

  4. Step 4: Load it at your pace

Keep it level with or below the top rim and keep the problem items out — paint and solvents, oil and fuel, chemicals, tires, batteries, propane tanks and gas cylinders, medical waste, asbestos, TVs and computers, and fridges, washers, stoves and other major appliances. Need more time or a swap mid-job? One call.

  5. Step 5: We haul it and dispose of it right

The load is secured for the road and goes to a facility permitted to take it, with metal, concrete and yard debris diverted from landfills whenever possible. You get your driveway back the way you left it.

Local knowledge

Sixteen towns, two states, and we know the driveways

There is a difference between covering an area and knowing it. We know which drives the truck fits down, that Duluth's obstruction permit names roll-off boxes and needs a $10,000 surety bond and liability insurance on file before it is issued (City Code §§ 45-15, 45-19), that Superior wants a Director of Public Works permit for anything in a street (Code § 106-8), that Duluth snow emergencies send cars to the other side of the street, that I-35, US-53, MN-61 and MN-194 are state trunk highways where MnDOT has no container permit, that Duluth, Hermantown, Proctor, Rice Lake, Cloquet and their neighbors sit inside the Resource Renew district with its own hauler licence, that Wrenshall and Barnum require a city licence or contract to haul refuse for hire, and that Rice Lake bans street parking all winter.

Our service area page lists every town we cover, grouped by area, and each has its own page covering access, local character and what that town's own rules say about containers in the street and who may haul.

Credentials

What you are actually hiring

Plain, checkable facts about who you would be working with — no invented star ratings or reviews.

  • Licensed & insured, with professional drivers

Professional drivers who respect your driveway and property and place each container with care. Ask when you book if your property manager, general contractor or HOA needs proof of insurance.

  • Based in Superior, minutes from Duluth

The yard is at 405 John Ave, Superior, WI 54880 — inside the City of Superior, Douglas County, a few minutes from the Blatnik and Bong bridges into Duluth. The number on this page reaches a local team, not an answering service in another state.

  • Sixteen towns, four counties, two states

Duluth and Superior, and the towns around them: Hermantown, Proctor and Rice Lake in St. Louis County, Esko, Scanlon, Cloquet, Carlton, Wrenshall, Barnum, Moose Lake and Cromwell in Carlton County, Floodwood, and Two Harbors and Silver Bay on the North Shore. We tell you honestly about timing and any local rule before you book.

  • Sorted the way Minnesota and Wisconsin require

Minnesota keeps major appliances, tires, car batteries, vehicle fluids, yard waste and mercury items out of the trash, Resource Renew adds TVs, computers and other electronics in the Duluth area, and Wisconsin has its own landfill bans. We keep those out of the box, recycle what facilities take, and say so.

Dumpster rental in Duluth — your questions

How much does it cost to rent a dumpster in Duluth, MN?

Dumpster rental pricing often ranges from about $350 to $750, depending on the dumpster size, the type of debris, the delivery location and the rental duration, with no hidden fees. You get a flat rate up front whenever possible that includes delivery, pickup, disposal, the standard rental period and the included weight — about 1 to 2 tons on a 10 yard, up to 5 to 6 on a 40. Going over the included weight, or keeping the container longer, can add a fee, and we explain both before you book. Call (218) 522-8487 for a quote for your address.

How quickly can you deliver a dumpster in Duluth?

Same-day or next-day in many parts of Duluth, Superior, Hermantown and nearby areas, depending on scheduling availability. For the best chance of same-day, call early — if you call before midday, we will do everything possible. The phone is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, but we do not promise night or Sunday drop-offs.

Do I need a permit for a dumpster in Duluth?

In a street, alley or sidewalk, yes. Putting a roll-off there needs a City obstruction permit from Engineering, and the City's permit page names roll-off boxes. You apply online through the City's ePlace system; the City requires a $10,000 surety bond and liability insurance naming the City before it issues the permit, though a contractor's bond and insurance on file can cover it. The fee is a base fee plus area-and-days, parking meter and sign charges, so check the City's current fee schedule, and a road closure needs at least 5 business days. The permit card is posted at the container. On your own driveway, Duluth's zoning code mentions roll-off containers in its storage-container rules without saying how they apply to a short debris rental, so we check placement rules with you before delivery. Check your HOA too.

What can't go in a dumpster in Minnesota?

Minnesota bans these from the trash or a landfill: tires (Minn. Stat. 115A.904); major appliances such as fridges, washers, dryers, stoves, water heaters, AC units and dehumidifiers (115A.9561); CRT TVs and monitors (115A.9565); car batteries (115A.915); motor oil, filters, antifreeze and other vehicle fluids (115A.916); yard waste (115A.931); mercury items such as thermostats and fluorescent tubes (115A.932); and rechargeable batteries (115A.9157). In the Duluth area, Resource Renew also keeps out TVs and monitors 7 inches or bigger, computers, printers and cell phones. We also keep out paint, solvents and oils, hazardous chemicals, gas cylinders and propane tanks, medical waste and asbestos. If you are unsure about an item, call before loading it.

Will a dumpster damage my driveway?

We take precautions during delivery and pickup. If you would like extra protection, placing plywood or boards under the contact points can help reduce surface wear. Tell us before delivery if a surface worries you.

Which dumpster size do I need?

Volume and weight are two separate limits, and the material decides which runs out first. Small cleanups, roofing, concrete and dirt are a 10 or 15; home remodeling and landscaping a 20; construction, demolition and large cleanouts a 30 or 40. Count the job in pickup truck loads — about 3 for a 10 yard, up to about 12 for a 40. The size guide covers it; the phone call confirms it.

Do you deliver outside Duluth?

Yes — Superior, Hermantown, Proctor and Rice Lake; Esko, Scanlon, Cloquet, Carlton, Wrenshall, Barnum, Moose Lake and Cromwell; and Floodwood, Two Harbors and Silver Bay. Each town has its own page with its own street and hauling rules.

When is the best time to book?

Early. Same-day depends on availability, and a call before midday gives you the best chance. For a planned remodel or cleanout, a few days' notice gets you the size you want on the day you want it — and if the container has to go in a Duluth street, the City's obstruction permit and its bond and insurance come first, with 5 business days for a road closure. If a regulated demolition is involved, the MPCA wants at least 10 working days' notice.
