Approx. 20 road miles from the yard, around 27 minutes.
Scanlon is approx. 20 road miles west-southwest of the yard, around 27 minutes — same-day or next-day when availability allows; call early for the best chance of same-day. It is a city of 987 at the 2020 Census, in Carlton County, inside the Western Lake Superior Sanitary District.
The City's posted public-nuisance ordinance has homes of four or fewer units arrange weekly disposal through a licensed collector (§ 2.8.1), or haul it to a landfill themselves each week (§ 2.8.2), and it sends construction debris to an MPCA-designated site (§ 2.8.5). Remodels, roofs and clean-outs go out in roll-offs.

What comes out of Scanlon properties
Remodels and landscaping in 20s, roofing in 10s and 20s, garage clean-outs and flooring in 15s, estate clean-outs in 30s, and a 10 or 15 for concrete and dirt — heavy material usually only goes in the smaller boxes. Construction debris goes to an MPCA-designated site under the City's ordinance (§ 2.8.5). Minnesota keeps these out of the trash and out of landfills: tires (Minn. Stat. 115A.904); major appliances such as fridges, washers, dryers, stoves, water heaters and air conditioners (115A.9561); TVs and monitors with picture tubes (115A.9565); lead-acid car batteries (115A.915); motor oil, oil filters, antifreeze and other vehicle fluids (115A.916); yard waste mixed with trash (115A.931); mercury items such as thermostats and fluorescent tubes (115A.932); and rechargeable batteries and devices with built-in rechargeables (115A.9157). Tell us if a load is yard waste, and before you load an appliance. No paint, solvents, oils, hazardous chemicals, gas cylinders, propane tanks, batteries, medical waste or asbestos.

Sizes
Choosing a container size in Scanlon
Weight is what usually decides the size, not how much room the pile takes up.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 Yard Dumpster | about 14 ft long × 7.5 ft wide × 3.5 ft high | about 3 pickup truck loads | 1–2 tons | Small kitchen and bathroom remodels, roofing tear-offs, garage and single-room cleanouts, and concrete, tile, asphalt and brick within the weight limit. |
| 15 Yard Dumpster | about 16 ft long × 7.5 ft wide × 4.5 ft high | about 4–5 pickup truck loads | 2–3 tons | Garage, attic and basement cleanouts, kitchen and bath remodels, flooring and carpet removal, roofing, small decks and fences, and yard cleanup. |
| 20 Yard Dumpster | about 22 ft long × 7.5 ft wide × 4.5 ft high | about 6 pickup truck loads | 3–4 tons | Whole-home cleanouts, multi-room renovations, roofing projects, large landscaping jobs and light demolition with mixed debris. |
| 30 Yard Dumpster | about 22 ft long × 7.5 ft wide × 6 ft high | about 9 pickup truck loads | 4–5 tons | Multi-room renovations, estate and property cleanouts, office and retail remodels, light demolition and community cleanups. |
| 40 Yard Dumpster | about 22 ft long × 7.5 ft wide × 8 ft high | about 12 pickup truck loads | 5–6 tons | Commercial renovations, new construction and large demolition jobs, full-home remodels, warehouse and commercial cleanouts, and large event or community cleanups. |
Permits, placement and who may haul in Scanlon
Who may haul — the rule that matters: the City's posted ordinance has homes use “the services of a licensed collector” or self-haul weekly (§ 2.8.1, § 2.8.2). The Western Lake Superior Sanitary District, now called Resource Renew, says no one may collect or transport mixed municipal solid waste, rubbish or recyclable materials for profit within the District without a District licence (WLSSD Solid Waste Ordinance § 6.1), and its hauler application lists roll-off containers and construction/demolition waste among the services. We found no City franchise. We're licensed and insured.
Placement: we found no City street or right-of-way permit in what we read, and the zoning ordinance was not readable, so this page claims none either way. A driveway is the simple spot — give us clear placement instructions and you don't need to be home. Ask Public Works, 218-576-4122, before using a street.
Winter: no parking of any motor vehicle on the streets, alleys, boulevards, sidewalks or public grounds from midnight to 6 a.m., November 1 to March 31, with towing at 2 inches of snow or more (Ord. 219). That covers vehicles; a container belongs on the driveway.
State highways: MnDOT has no permit for setting a private container on trunk-highway right-of-way, and Minnesota law makes it a misdemeanor to obstruct a highway or place any object within its limits (Minn. Stat. 160.2715). Beside a state highway the container goes on private property, never in the right-of-way. We check the exact address.
Covered loads: Minnesota bars driving a load that can drop, sift, leak or blow out (Minn. Stat. 169.81, subd. 5). Keep debris level with the top rim — overfilled containers can't be legally transported.
Remodel or tear-down: Minnesota requires appliances, tires, mercury items, batteries, oils, electronics and household hazardous waste to be taken out before renovation or demolition starts (Minn. R. 7035.0805). Demolition debris means concrete, brick, asphalt, untreated wood, masonry, glass and similar building parts — never asbestos (Minn. R. 7035.0300, subp. 30). Asbestos work needs an MDH-licensed contractor, who notifies the Minnesota Department of Health at least 5 calendar days ahead (Minn. Stat. 326.74); a homeowner working in their own single-family home is exempt from the licence (326.72). For many demolitions — commercial buildings and larger residential buildings — the MPCA must be notified 10 working days ahead. Asbestos never goes in our containers; tell us if you find any.

How it works
Booking a dumpster in Scanlon
Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.
Step 1: Call and tell us the job
One short conversation. We ask the address, what you are clearing — a cleanout, a renovation, a roof, a yard, a job site — roughly how much there is, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us.
Step 2: We size it and quote it flat
You get a flat-rate quote whenever possible that covers delivery, pickup, disposal, the standard rental period and an included weight allowance. If a smaller box does the job we will say so. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size.
Step 3: Delivered where you want it
The driver sets the container on the driveway, lot or job site where you asked, on a flat, solid surface rather than the lawn. Often same-day or next-day, when scheduling allows. You do not need to be home.
Step 4: Load it at your pace
Keep it level with or below the top rim and keep the problem items out — paint and solvents, oil and fuel, chemicals, tires, batteries, propane tanks and gas cylinders, medical waste, asbestos, TVs and computers, and fridges, washers, stoves and other major appliances. Need more time or a swap mid-job? One call.
Step 5: We haul it and dispose of it right
The load is secured for the road and goes to a facility permitted to take it, with metal, concrete and yard debris diverted from landfills whenever possible. You get your driveway back the way you left it.

Local answers
Dumpster rental in Scanlon — common questions
Is Scanlon same-day?
Same-day or next-day when availability allows — it is about 27 minutes from the yard. Call (218) 522-8487 early for the best chance.
Where does construction debris go in Scanlon?
The City's ordinance sends it to an MPCA-designated site (Sec. 2.8.5) — not out with the weekly trash. A roll-off handles it.
Do I need a permit for a dumpster in Scanlon?
We found no City street permit in what we read, so we make no claim either way. A driveway is the simple spot; ask Public Works before using a street.
Is Scanlon in the WLSSD district?
Yes. Scanlon is named in the Western Lake Superior Sanitary District's enabling law, and the District licenses haulers (WLSSD Ord. Sec. 6.1).
