Yard Waste Dumpster Rental across Duluth, Superior and the Northland

Yards here make debris in bursts. Strong winds and heavy storms bring limbs down; a landscaping redo pulls out beds, shrubs, sod and mulch all at once; spring and fall cleanups fill bag after bag. Duluth-area residents can take leaves, grass and brush to the Resource Renew Yard Waste Compost Site on Courtland St — but it is seasonal, roughly the third week of April to the Saturday before Thanksgiving, and it is one trailer at a time. A container on the driveway takes all of it, the week it happens, with no bagging and no repeat trips.

Two things shape the job. Clean green waste is worth keeping clean: outside the Twin Cities metro area, Minnesota law bars putting yard waste in mixed trash or a disposal facility (Minn. Stat. 115A.931), and Wisconsin bans yard waste, including brush under six inches across, from its landfills (Wis. Stat. 287.07(2)), so a load of branches, brush and clippings goes to composting and recycling facilities whenever possible — and household trash, plastic planters, treated lumber or chemicals mixed in spoil that. And yard waste is bulky and light until it is not: soil, sod, wet leaves and stumps are heavy. We size for the mix.

At a glance

What you get with yard waste dumpster rental

  • Tree branches and limbs, leaves and grass clippings, bushes, shrubs and hedge trimmings, soil, sod and mulch, weeds, roots, plants and small stumps
  • A 15 or 20 yard for most homes; a 10 for small cleanups and trimming
  • Same-day delivery when possible
  • No bags, no trailer trips, no repeat runs to the drop-off
  • Green waste directed to composting and recycling facilities whenever possible
  • Flexible rental periods, and recurring pickups for landscapers

Storm cleanup, tree work and landscape redos

Storm cleanup is the big one. Strong winds or a heavy storm can leave fallen limbs, damaged landscaping and scattered debris across a yard in an afternoon, and a 20 yard on the driveway takes the whole pile in one go.

Landscape and tree jobs are the planned version — shrubs, mulch and old plant beds out, a tree trimmed or removed, branches, logs and stumps, spring and fall leaf cleanup, a home prepared for sale or a rental property kept up. Landscapers and property managers can set up ongoing service and scheduled pickups for recurring yard waste, and for mixed jobs we recommend the right container setup — usually a separate box for anything that is not green.

Soil, stumps and the weight line

Branches, brush and hedge trimmings are light. Soil, sod, wet leaves, stumps and roots are not. A 20 of brush is nowhere near its weight allowance; a 20 heaped with dirt is well over it. Tell us the mix and we will size it — usually a 15 or 20 for the green waste and, if there is a lot of soil, a 10 alongside. One kind of material per load keeps the options open: clean limbs and clippings have more places to go than a mixed load, and soil travels best on its own.

Yard waste — the local specifics

Every town has its own drop-off, and none of them is built for a whole yard at once. In the Duluth area, the Resource Renew Yard Waste Compost Site on Courtland St takes leaves, grass and brush in season, roughly mid-April to the Saturday before Thanksgiving, and the Materials Recovery Center does not take yard waste at all. Moose Lake's compost and brush site is yard waste only — free for Moose Lake residents, with a fee for non-residents and contractors, credit card only. Carlton hosts Clean Up Days each May and September for city residents to dispose of yard waste. Two Harbors runs a yard waste facility for residents and businesses in the City, for grass, leaves and branches only. In Superior, Wisconsin's yard waste ban keeps green waste out of the landfill-bound trash (Wis. Stat. 287.07(2)). A container is for the pile that is bigger, heavier or sooner than any of that, and because both states keep yard waste out of the trash, it stays a green load. The what can and cannot go in guide explains what has to stay out of a green load and where it goes instead.

Answers

Yard Waste Dumpster Rental — your questions answered

Do I need to bag or bundle the brush?

No. Load it as it comes — no bags, no bundles. The things that matter are keeping it level with or below the top rim and keeping household trash, plastic and chemicals out of it.

Can I put dirt in a yard waste dumpster?

Yes — soil, sod and mulch are accepted. Soil is heavy, so it goes in a smaller box or its own load within the weight limit. Tell us it is part of the job when you book and we will plan the loads.

Can I put a whole tree in?

Cut to fit, yes — limbs, logs, branches and small stumps are fine. Keep everything level with or below the top rim. Big stumps and root balls are heavy, so tell us about them.

How fast after a storm can you deliver?

Same-day or next-day delivery is often possible, depending on scheduling — call early in the day. If the week after a storm is busy, we tell you honestly when to expect the container.

Do you recycle green waste?

Green waste is directed to composting and recycling facilities whenever possible, and Minnesota and Wisconsin both keep yard waste out of the trash, so a clean load matters. Treated lumber, plastic planters or household trash in the box spoils that.
