Junk Removal across Duluth, Superior and the Northland

Junk removal is the other half of what we do. Instead of dropping a container and coming back in a week, a crew shows up, loads what you point at, and hauls it off. It suits the jobs where the problem is labor rather than volume: a couch, a mattress, an appliance, an estate cleanout or a rental property turnover, an office or retail cleanup, storm cleanup, leftover renovation debris. You point to the items, and we take care of the rest.

It matters here because the public options only go so far. In Superior, City trash pickup will not take items that do not fit in the cart, and the spring clean-up excludes building materials, tires, TVs, appliances and mattresses. In the Duluth area, Resource Renew's Materials Recovery Center is self-service — you load it, you drive it, you unload it. The rule of thumb on the phone: if it is a few items or a couple of pickup loads and you want it gone soon, call the crew. If it is a whole house or a job that will take you more than a day to sort, a self-load dumpster on the driveway is usually the better deal. We run both.

At a glance

What you get with junk removal

  • A crew that does the loading, hauling and disposal
  • A clear, upfront estimate based on volume and labor
  • Furniture, mattresses, appliances with proper preparation, household junk, renovation debris, office equipment and shelving
  • Same-day or next-day service when scheduling allows
  • Usable furniture and household items donated, and metal, cardboard, electronics and debris recycled whenever possible
  • A self-load roll-off on the driveway instead if you would rather load it yourself

Cleanouts, turnovers and the one-off pile

Estate cleanouts and rental property turnovers are the biggest category: the furniture nobody wants, the appliances, the garage, basement and attic full of boxes. Property management jobs are next — tenant move-outs and property cleanups. Then offices, retail stores and warehouses clearing equipment and shelving, and the one-off pile: the couch, the mattress, leftover renovation debris, branches and damaged materials after a storm.

Two kinds of item need a word before we come. Electronics — in the Duluth area, Resource Renew keeps TVs and monitors 7 inches or bigger, computers, printers and cell phones out of the trash, Minnesota bans CRT TVs and monitors statewide (Minn. Stat. 115A.9565), and Wisconsin bans TVs, computers, monitors, printers and other electronics from its landfills (Wis. Stat. 287.07(5)) — so they travel separately to recycling. Major appliances — fridges, washers, dryers, stoves, water heaters, AC units and dehumidifiers — may not go in the trash in Minnesota and must be recycled or reused (115A.9561), and Wisconsin bans them from landfills (287.07). Tell us what the appliance is when you book and we tell you any cost up front.

Junk removal or a dumpster — which is better?

A rough rule: if the job is a few items or a couple of pickup loads and you want it gone quickly, call the crew — full-service junk removal is priced on volume and labor. If it is a remodel, a yard, a job site or a multi-day cleanout, a roll-off on the driveway is usually better value because you load it at your own pace and it is priced flat by size. Larger or ongoing jobs are quoted individually. We will say which on the phone; we do both.

Junk removal — the local specifics

Most public programs stop short of a real cleanout. In Superior, City pickup takes only what fits in the cart; items that do not fit go to the City landfill or are removed privately, and the spring clean-up excludes building materials, tires, TVs, appliances and mattresses. Large commercial and industrial sites — more than four carts a week — are not eligible for City garbage service at all (§ 58-11(4)). In the Duluth area, Resource Renew's Materials Recovery Center at 4587 Ridgeview Rd is self-service for residents and small commercial customers and does not take household garbage, hazardous waste or yard waste. Household hazardous waste — paint, solvents, pesticides, cleaners — goes free to the Resource Renew Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 2626 Courtland St, which Superior residents can also use at no cost. In Carlton County, the County Transfer Station on Highway 210 in Carlton takes construction and demolition debris, at half price on Wednesdays, and Moose Lake's compost and brush site is yard waste only — free for residents, with a fee for non-residents and contractors. Junk removal is for the pile that cannot wait for any of that. Usable furniture and household items go to donation, and metal, cardboard, electronics and debris to recycling, whenever possible.

Answers

Junk Removal — your questions answered

How is junk removal priced?

Full-service junk removal is based on volume and labor, and you get a clear, upfront estimate, so you know what to expect. Describe the pile, or email a photo, and we will give you a number.

Do I need to be there?

For the first visit, usually — someone needs to point at what goes and what stays. After that, a gate code and a phone number usually do it.

Can you take appliances?

Yes — appliances with proper preparation. Minnesota does not allow major appliances such as fridges, washers, dryers, stoves and water heaters in the trash and requires them to be recycled or reused, and Wisconsin bans them from landfills, so they go for recycling rather than in a load of junk. Tell us what the appliance is when you book and we tell you any cost up front.

Can you take a mattress?

Yes. A mattress or box spring can go with the rest of the load, and single-item pickups such as a couch, a mattress or an appliance are a common junk removal job.

How fast can a crew come?

Same-day or next-day service is available in many cases around Duluth and Superior, when scheduling allows. Call early in the day for the best chance of today.
