The job decides the number. What we can show you is what goes into that number and what moves it, so the quote you get on the phone makes sense.

Dumpster rental pricing in Duluth often ranges from $350 to $750. Where a job lands depends on the dumpster size, the type and weight of the debris, the delivery location and the rental duration, plus any additional pickups. We provide flat-rate pricing whenever possible, including delivery, pickup and disposal, with no hidden fees.
We quote by phone rather than post a price list, because the things that decide the number, what is going in, how heavy it is and how far the truck runs, change from job to job. A 15 yard of carpet in Hermantown and a 10 yard of broken patio in Cloquet are different jobs at the scale and on the road. Call (218) 522-8487 with the address and the material for an exact price. We accept major credit and debit cards, and payment is typically collected when your booking is confirmed to secure your delivery date.
A flat-rate quote typically includes delivery and pickup, disposal within your weight allowance, and the standard rental period. That is the whole job for most customers. The rest of this guide is about the few things that can change it, and how to keep them from changing it.
The biggest cost inside any flat rate is disposal. Inside the Western Lake Superior Sanitary District, all solid waste collected and removed must be taken to the appropriate facility licensed and permitted to accept that waste (WLSSD Ord. § 4.5.A), and different facilities take different materials at different rates. Sorting matters here: Minnesota defines demolition debris as concrete, brick, bituminous concrete, untreated wood, masonry, glass, trees, rock and plastic building parts, never asbestos (Minn. R. 7035.0300 subp. 30), and the District's ordinance adds that "Mixtures of Demolition Debris and other Solid Waste are not Demolition Debris" (§ 2.1). A clean demolition load and a mixed cleanout load are different loads at the facility. Whenever possible, metal, concrete, asphalt, cardboard and yard debris are recycled rather than landfilled.
Size and weight. Each dumpster includes a standard weight allowance depending on size and material: 1–2 tons on a 10 yard, 2–3 on a 15, 3–4 on a 20, 4–5 on a 30 and 5–6 on a 40. If your debris goes over, we weigh the load and apply a clear overage fee. Concrete, dirt, brick, asphalt, tile and shingles use the allowance up fast, so for heavy loads we may recommend a smaller dumpster.
Days. Most rentals include a standard rental period of up to 7 days, and your quote confirms the days. Need longer? We can often extend your rental for a reasonable daily or weekly fee, depending on availability. Finished early? Call and we can schedule pickup sooner.
Distance. Delivery location is part of every quote. Our yard is in Superior, minutes from the bridges, and approx. road miles from it are: Superior city centre 1, Duluth city centre 5, Proctor 9, Hermantown 11, Rice Lake 13, Esko 17, Scanlon 20, Carlton 22, Cloquet and Wrenshall 23, Two Harbors 32, Barnum 38, Cromwell 43, Moose Lake 44, Floodwood 48 and Silver Bay 60. Approximate figures, but they explain why the longer runs can cost a little more.
Extra service. Additional pickups, swap-outs of a full box for an empty one, and an upgrade to a bigger size are all priced as part of the quote.
Minnesota keeps a list of items out of the trash and the landfill: tires (Minn. Stat. 115A.904), major appliances (115A.9561), TVs and monitors with a cathode-ray tube (115A.9565), lead-acid batteries (115A.915), motor oil, filters, antifreeze and other vehicle fluids (115A.916), yard waste (115A.931), mercury items such as thermostats and fluorescent tubes (115A.932) and rechargeable batteries (115A.9157). The District requires generators to separate its unacceptable wastes, including vehicle fluids, lead-acid and rechargeable batteries, tires, yard waste, hazardous waste and major appliances, from solid waste (§ 4.4.A), and bars collectors from accepting loads that contain them (§ 6.3.7). An unprotected load at the District Transfer Station may be charged twice the posted rate (§ 4.5.E). So an old TV or a set of tires tossed in at the end can cost more than it is worth.
Keep these out, along with our own no list: paint, solvents and oils, fuel, hazardous chemicals, gas cylinders and propane tanks, medical waste and asbestos. The what-goes-in guide says where each one goes instead.
For a small job, a drop-off or a city program may do. For anything bigger, the limits add up:
| Option | Published charge or limit | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| City of Duluth pickup | No City bulky-item or yard-waste pickup found | A single bulky item goes through your licensed hauler by advance arrangement, at your cost (§ 24-2) |
| Resource Renew Materials Recovery Center, 4587 Ridgeview Rd, Duluth | Mixed waste, including mixed construction and demolition loads and clean concrete, $30 per cubic yard; pallets and clean wood $10 per cubic yard (page dated Oct 2, 2026) | Self-service for residents and small commercial customers; no household garbage, household hazardous waste or yard waste |
| Resource Renew Yard Waste Compost Site, Courtland St, Duluth | Leaves, grass clippings and plants free; brush and logs $10 per yard | Open typically from the third week of April to the Saturday before Thanksgiving; logs cut to 4 ft; no root balls |
| Resource Renew Household Hazardous Waste Facility, 2626 Courtland St | Free for Minnesota households and City of Superior residents | Paint, batteries, vehicle fluids and filters, pesticides, fluorescent bulbs, sharps; businesses use the Clean Shop program |
| City of Superior spring clean-up | Annual curbside pickup for household items that do not fit the carts | No building materials, tires, TVs, appliances, mattresses, hazardous liquids or asbestos |
| Carlton County Transfer Station, 1950 Hwy 210, Carlton | Construction or demolition debris $10 per cubic yard on Wednesdays, $20 other days (price guide effective Sept 1, 2025) | Asphalt, concrete, brick, shingles and loads over 9 cubic yards are always weighed |
Every do-it-yourself trip is a secured load too: Minnesota law says no vehicle may be driven on a highway unless the load is covered or loaded so nothing can drop, sift, leak, blow or escape (Minn. Stat. 169.81 subd. 5). Add the drive, the gate hours and the per-yard charges, and past a handful of trips one roll-off usually wins on money and on weekends.
None of these change our flat rate, but they can add to the cost of a job. A Duluth street spot needs the Obstruction Permit: a base fee plus charges for the area and days occupied, meters and no-parking signs (§ 45-17), with a penalty for starting before the permit is granted, and a $10,000 surety bond and liability insurance naming the City, which a contractor's bond and insurance on file can cover (§ 45-19). Check the City's current fee schedule for the figures. Hermantown's 2026 fee schedule lists a $100 temporary obstruction permit. Superior's code names no fee for a street or sidewalk permit, but a sidewalk permit needs a certificate of insurance naming the City (§ 106-46). On a state trunk highway there is no permit path at all.
One more cost on bigger jobs. In Minnesota, asbestos work at or above the state thresholds needs an MDH-licensed contractor, who notifies MDH at least five calendar days before the project starts (Minn. Stat. 326.74); a homeowner working in their own single-family home is exempt from the licence and the project permit fee (326.72). The MPCA needs 10 working days' notice before demolishing most commercial and larger buildings. On the Wisconsin side, the DNR lists a $135 notification fee for a demolition with less than 160 square feet or 260 linear feet of regulated asbestos material (DNR asbestos page, as read in October 2026).
For anything beyond a couple of pickup loads, a container you load yourself is usually the better value, because you are paying for the box rather than the labor. For a single couch, mattress or appliance, or a cleanout with nobody to lift, our junk removal service may suit you better: our team loads, hauls and disposes of everything, priced on volume and labor. Call (218) 522-8487 — the phone is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In many parts of Duluth, Superior, Hermantown and nearby areas we offer same-day or next-day delivery depending on scheduling availability; call early for the best chance of same-day service.

Dumpster rental pricing often ranges from $350 to $750, depending on the dumpster size, the type of debris, the delivery location and the rental duration. We provide flat-rate pricing whenever possible, including delivery, pickup and disposal, with no hidden fees.
Delivery and pickup, disposal within your weight allowance, and the standard rental period of up to 7 days. Going over the weight allowance, keeping the box longer, or extra pickups and swap-outs are what can add to it.
Yes, the City charges for the Obstruction Permit: a base fee plus charges for the area and days occupied, and for meters and no-parking signs. Check the City's current fee schedule for the figures. A $10,000 bond and liability insurance naming the City are also required.
Delivery location is part of the quote, so the longer runs can cost a little more: Two Harbors is approx. 32 road miles from our yard in Superior and Silver Bay approx. 60. Permit rules also change from town to town.
